Are you ready to dress up your baby? If you are like many parents, you love the many ways you can dress your child up and you love doing it. It does not have to be a special occasion to do it, either. For those parents that want to follow the trends, there are a few things to keep in mind.

Trends Infants and Toddlers Love

What are the latest trends for young ones in clothing? You can find many things you can do to dress them up with great colors and styles, including many name brands. You do not have to spend a lot, either.

  • Do think green clothing. Environmentally friendly is important. The only thing more important is ensuring your child’s clothing is safe for his or her skin.
  • Going over the top is not hard either. With many bright colors and patterns being a big trend this year, many children are looking glamorous and stylish. Make color trends a part of your baby’s wardrobe.
  • Make those special occasions really special. Find baby costumes that bring out the thrill of being a child, including fun themes, cartoons and even animal costumes. Be creative.
  • On the other hand, keeping it simple is also an important style trend for babies and toddlers. Functional clothing for kids is better than clothing that’s not comfortable.
  • Do accessorize. Even young ones need great shoes and hats.

The latest fashion trends for your toddler and infants are all too easy to enjoy as an adult. Who doesn’t love dressing up their baby in something that is sure to get the attention of others?

Celebrities have always dictated the fashion of teenagers, and often adults, but now the latest rad styles are making their way to the crib. The babies are not just wearing the clothes celebrities’ babies are wearing – they are wearing the clothes celebrities are wearing. The latest fashion trend for infants and toddlers is hip hop clothing. Aside from being fashionable, there are some good things about urban clothing for little ones.

Urban wear is heavy on comfort. The clothes are not sexy, a huge criticism of many styles creeping their way into more innocent generations. Hip hop clothes depend on baggy sweat pants and soft denim that are suitable and age appropriate. Hats are warm and protect little heads from the wind as well as the harmful rays of the sun.

Hip hop clothing lines for infants and toddlers were first introduced by designers like Tommy Hilfiger and Ralf Lauren. Now Phat Farm, a line of urban clothes by rapper Russell Simmons, has developed urban clothing for little tots. Phat Farm Boys and Baby Phat Girls are Phat Farms line for little ones.

Sales for children’s clothing continue to rise, even as the economy is causing a decline in sales for men’s and women’s clothing. According to Anthony Sala, President of Sales for Puma, it is not just the parents buying fashionable duds for the babies. The average child has about 14 adults buying them clothes. Some parenting magazines even offer style guides for the littlest fashion plates.

These clothes are more readily available in larger cities, but there are a few internet sites offering urban clothes for babies and toddlers. Some wholesale sites offer savings off of the rather high prices of designer lines.

At the rate that babies grow, it can seem as if you are constantly buying or needing to buy new clothes for them. Sure, you can head out to the local baby boutiques and pay full price for the latest baby fashions, but it is going to cost you a fortune, to say the least. There are at least three ways that you can buy the baby clothes you need, but save money in the process.

Shop Online

A website that sells baby clothing and accessories would be a perfect place to look first. Because these online retail stores do not have the same overhead that brick and mortar shops do, you can often find great clothes at greatly reduced prices. Some sites even offer free shipping or deeply discounted shipping, so that you still end up saving money on your purchase. As an added bonus, coupons and special promotions can add to the amount of money you can save on your purchases.

Beg, Borrow, but Don’t Steal

You may know someone in your family, or even some of your friends, that have had children before you. Whether you ask to borrow the clothes or they offer them to you, you’ll often find practically brand new clothes that you can use for free.

Shop Gently Used

Most consignment shops only accept gently used baby clothes. Second hand consignment shops make great places to search for all sorts of baby clothes and accessories. You may even be able to find designer and high-end luxury goods at deep discounts that you may not be able to find in other places.

Dressing for Family Pictures

Fashion for pictures is a tricky subject. If you have seen enough family pictures in general, you may have noticed both ends of the spectrum: when a family is mismatched or alternatively a little too alike. Here are some tips to coordinating clothes for family pictures.

Wearing Similar Clothes

Deciding on a level of dressiness could be a great first step. Keeping in mind the location or backdrop of the pictures, you could put a “theme” of sorts. Whether you go with a beach theme or jeans and a nice shirt, deciding on how dressy the family is essential.

Choosing Coordinating Outfits

Once you have decided on these issues, you can choose the exact clothes. Casual mens shirts and those for women could be paired with jeans or a nicer pair of slacks, for instance. Outfits or similar clothes could work for your children, as well.

Coordinating Colors of Clothes

Coordinating colors is perhaps most difficult when it comes to family pictures. Instead of exactly matching everyone in the family (sometimes this carries a bit of a contrived look), perhaps you could go with similar and complementary shades. Two complementary colors would be a good look, and you could choose clothes that go around this theme.

These items can be of help when you choose how to dress for family pictures. Knowing your environment will allow you to best choose clothes, and perhaps you can search for family pictures to get some ideas. In addition, you may be able to change clothes during the session, giving you more possibilities if something doesn’t work out as planned such as one set of casual clothes and one dressy.

The Best Clothing for Your Toddler

Finding the best clothes for your toddler can feel like an exercise in futility. You may have a child that is extremely picky and only wants to wear one or two articles of clothing — ever. This can be very frustrating for you, as the parent. On the other hand, you may have a child who doesn’t want to wear anything. Finding the best balance, and the best clothes, is important.

First, the best type of clothes to dress your toddler in are clothes that are fairly easy to get into and out of. This is not only for them, but for you, as well. Toddlers get messy, and if you have to spend ten minutes getting them out of their clothes, you will most likely get frustrated long before you get them bathed or into a new outfit.

If your child is potty training, he or she will also need to be able to get out of clothes easily to get to the potty on time; otherwise you may end up pulling out the Reach Prepaid Visa Card to get a new outfit!

Choosing things like color and style is a very personal choice. This is something that will vary from parent to parent, and even child to child. Some parents choose not to have their children wear any items with cartoon characters, for example. Others like to stick to a specific color scheme. If you have preferences like these, don’t let others dissuade you. Dress your children in the styles that you choose. You are their parent after all.

Cheap Ways to Get Baby Clothes

It can be expensive to cloth your baby.  Babies are constantly growing and changing, causing them to need bigger clothing more often than an older child.  If you are having trouble affording baby clothes, there are a few thrifty ways that you can cloth your child.

Have a Clothing Swap Party

Invite a few local mothers over for drinks and snacks.  Invite women that each have small kids of a few various ages.  Everyone can bring clothes that no longer fit their own children, but may fit another baby.  This is a great way to get the most out of clothing.

Thrift Store

Shop at the Goodwill or another thrift store.  Used clothing is much cheaper than new clothing.  Don’t worry about any stigmas that may go along with shopping at a second hand store.  Many of the clothes there are almost as good as new.  Wash the clothing before putting it on your baby and no one will even realize that your child is wearing second hand clothes.

Shop Online

You can friend great deals online at eBay and other auction sites.  You are not the only mother who has no idea what to do with the clothing that your baby has outgrown.  Check eBay often for the best sales.  Many items have both a buy it now price and a bidding price.  Use the buy it now price if you see an item that you really want.  Use the bidding price if your goal is to pay the lowest amount possible.

Zippers or Buttons? The Toddler Fashion Dilemma

The dilemma between zippers and buttons for toddler fashion is an important one. It shows that parents really do care about their children’s wardrobe, not only for fashion reasons, but for safety, comfort, ease, and a host of other reasons – right down to the last button. Most infant and toddler fashion today favors buttons over zippers, but that does not mean that zippers are completely out of the question. The question really comes down to how selective a parent wants to be when choosing toddler fashion.

Buttons have the advantage of being the safer of the two clothing fasteners. There are actually several different types of buttons besides the classic sewn button that slips through a hole in the fabric and holds it in place. There are buttons that snap into place, and fasteners like those on overalls. All of these fasteners pose little to no threat to a child’s safety. A metal zipper, however, can get stuck on a number of things.

It is also easier to repair or replace buttons than it is to repair or replace zippers. Even if you cannot locate the original buttons or ones that look similar, you can mix and match buttons with great effect. Children’s clothing can be eclectic and unusual, and sometimes mismatching buttons would turn that otherwise bland little cardigan into something really fun and distinctive.

One tip for button-friendly seamstresses is to keep all the buttons that come with new clothes in a “button jar” or box. Whenever you buy a new item, often it will come with an extra button or two on the tag or attached to the inside of the clothing itself. Take these off and store them in a safe place, so that whenever a button is needed, you know right where to find one. You can also search for buttons online, at garage sales, antique malls, sewing and crafts shops. Or, you can take a boring old button and add a charm, sticker, or small knickknack to it with a hot glue gun. Get creative!

The best part about toddler fashion is that it does not have to be expensive. If you stock your child’s wardrobe with just a few quality clothing items, you can build several adorable outfits that will win you and your little one lots of compliments, oohs, and ahhhs.

Boys Toddler Fashion

He will be sure to charm the ladies with a pair of overalls, whether in classic denim or cuddly corduroy. You cannot go wrong with overalls, which are easy to put on and take off, comfortable, and easy for the little one to run around in. Try a long-sleeve thermal or Henley underneath for a grown-up look.

Run with the denim theme and make sure your fashionable baby boy has a denim jacket. They’re durable and can be worn with just about anything. Add a microfiber or fleece vest underneath to keep him nice and warm. Try a pair of cowboy boots or rain boots to complete the look.

For the basics, stick with solids, stripes, and plaids. They are easier to mix and match, and never go out of style. Brighten up his wardrobe with a sprinkling of fun graphics, cartoon characters, animal prints, or bright colors.
